PGPD Arrests James William Diggs in Connection with Two Sexual Assaults

James William Diggs

The Prince George’s County Police Department this afternoon arrested a Bladensburg man and charged him in connection with a sexual assault that happened Wednesday night. The suspect is 48-year-old James William Diggs of the 5200 block of Newton Street in Bladensburg.

On March 4, 2015, at 8:15 pm, a woman was walking in the 3800 block of 38th Avenue in Cottage City when the suspect grabbed her from behind, put a knife to her throat and attacked her in a secluded area off the street.  On Thursday, detectives were able to identify Diggs as the suspect and obtained an arrest warrant.  Friday afternoon, the PGPD’s Fugitive Squad captured Diggs in Waldorf, where he was arrested without incident.

Additionally, charges are pending against Diggs for a February 25, 2015, sexual assault of a woman that occurred in the 4100 block of 54th Street in Bladensburg. Detectives also consider Diggs a person of interest in two other sexual assaults that occurred on October 20, 2014, in the 5800 block of Annapolis Road and a September 8, 2014, attack in the 5100 block of Quincy Street.

Diggs is expected to be transported to the Department of Corrections early this evening.
