Chief Magaw Statement on Indictment of Former Officer

On Thursday, a grand jury indicted a former Prince George’s County Police Department officer on a fraud charge related to a worker's compensation claim. The allegation against former Corporal Melvin Kenney occurred while he was still employed by the department in May 2015. When the allegation of misconduct surfaced, Corporal Kenney was reassigned to desk duty. He resigned effective August 31, 2015.

Chief Mark Magaw released the following statement regarding the indictment:

“Following an internal investigation, the PGPD brought this case to the Prince George's County State's Attorney's Office. When an officer betrays the integrity of the badge, this department takes those allegations seriously. We hold our officers to a high set of standards. Our community deserves nothing less.”
