PGPD Investigating Fatal Crash in Capitol Heights

Our Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Unit is investigating a fatal crash in Capitol Heights last night around 9:15 pm. The decedent is 26-year-old Coree Parks of P Street in Northwest Washington.

The preliminary investigation reveals Parks was driving a stolen minivan. Officers were in the area actively looking for the minivan with the intention of making an investigatory stop. Preliminarily, it appears Parks began to flee when he observed marked police cruisers in the area. Parks drove over a median strip at the intersection of Silver Hill Road and Marlboro Pike. He then struck a responding marked police car, disabling that cruiser. Parks continued to flee after striking the cruiser. Parks appears to have lost control of the minivan and struck a telephone pole at the intersection of Walker Mill Road and Addison Road, causing his fatal injuries. He was pronounced dead on the scene.

Also, as part of the preliminary investigation, investigators reviewed dash camera video and police radio communications and determined that, at no point, was there ever a pursuit.
